About

This site was created to express my interest in various hobbies that occupy my time.  Most recently, I’ve taken a renewed interest in radio communications, primarily DXing from Western Michigan.  Other topics reflected here include my time spent building a home theater PC (HTPC) from the ground up based on the open source MythTV project.

Whatever my geeky “hobby of the moment is”, I’ll be sure to talk about it here.

What I wont talk about here is antique light bulbs.  For this subject, you will have to visit BulbCollector.com

Yours is the only blog I’ve come across detailing a build with this case, so thanks for that.

I am toying with the idea of buyingthis case to shift my current HTPC into. Curious as to whether you think there is any s pace to place a 2.5″ solid sate disk as a boot drive in addition to the 2 HDD already in place. I have read somewhere of a modder using double sided sticky velcro to mount the drive. In between psu and HDD/optical cage looks possible as does between the HDD/card reader bay and optical drive, or even between hdd cage and side wall next to the fan.

    Any suggestions or thoughts?

Yes, this should be possible. I’m not familiar with the form factor of the new solid state drives, but I have a small notebook drive in my hand with the cover removed from my HTPC and I see a lot of places that I could fit the notebook drive. Remember though that I have most of my cables hidden in the unused drive bay located under the optical drive (I’m only using one HD). For me, an idea place would be between the PSU and optical drive as you suggested, but if you’re utilizing that drive bay then cable management will be more difficult and this open area may be consumed by excess PSU cables like shown here:

Another good location may be behind the power switch. In the lower right corner of this picture there’s a nice opening between the side of the case fan and behind the power switch PC board. Of course you’ll have to mod some kind of simple mounting bracket (or the Velcro idea):
